Stuart, first a biochemist, became a
primary school teacher and taught at Calvin Christian School in Kingston,
Tasmania from 1979 to 1996.
Kathleen was ordained as a minister of the
Australian Churches of Christ in 1991, and served in the most southern parish
in Tasmania in the early 1990s.
We and our family of four children spent
1994 in Vancouver, Canada, where Kathleen studied for the Master of Theology
degree at Regent College. We lived another four years in Vancouver, and
Kathleen worked as a pastor in Mennonite Churches while Stuart studied for his
Master’s degree.
The Lord led us to further our theological
studies in the UK, at Durham University.
While studying part-time we both taught at
Birmingham Christian College, and were distance learning tutors for the Open
Theological College. Kathleen ministered in churches in Middlesbrough and
Cambridge. We both graduated with PhD degrees in 2010, and then taught at the
Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology in 2011.
We believe that God has called us to share
our education, our gifts and our experience in proclaiming his Good News ‘among
the nations’ of the world, particularly in countries that need assistance in
the development of theological education and the training of Christian leaders.
The project was set up in Tasmania , Australia ,
in 2012.
Since then we have taught intensive courses in the Philippines,
Malaysia, India and Latvia.
Our Support Group
We are blessed with a small number of
representatives of local churches in the Kingston-Hobart area who provide
on-going support for us as we minister in teaching. This support includes
listening to our reports, discussing our needs, praying for us and offering wisdom
and discernment. The group meets with us monthly when we are home in Tasmania , and we keep
them up-to-date regarding our activities and needs while we are away. They
manage the bank accounts that provide our living expenses, holding us
accountable for expenditure, and they produce a monthly financial report. They
distribute our regular news and prayer letters to the wider body of people who
support us with their prayers and their donations.
